BIOGRAPHY
Alexander spent part of his childhood in his grandfather’s animation studio. At the age of 10, he began taking photographs, and by 16, he knew he wanted to be a cinematographer. After graduating high school, completing community service in a retirement home, and traveling and working in Asia, Alexander moved from Bonn to Munich in 1989. There, he worked in a film lab, as a lighting technician, and as a camera assistant before making his debut as Director of Photography for a feature film in 1999 with the drama Planet Alex. Since then, he has been responsible for around 80 feature films, TV movies, and series.
He loves dawn and dusk, low backlight from the sun, deep and pale colors, frightening darkness, dust in the air, night shoots in summer, cold breath in winter, glittering lakes, fireflies under a full moon, neon and strobe lights, thick hazy club air, steaming forests in the morning, thunderstorms in the mountains, heat flares on highways, smiling faces, goosebumps, teary eyes, the diversity of life, and the beauty of all human beings.
He sees himself as a visual storyteller, an accomplice to the director, and an ally to the actors. He is endlessly curious about life and eager for new projects.
