BIOGRAPHY
Part of his childhood Alex spent in his grandfather’s animation studio, where his fascination with visual storytelling began.
After graduating from high school, completing community service in a retirement home and spending time travelling and working across Asia, he moved from Bonn to Munich in 1989 to pursue a career in cinematography. He learned the craft from the ground up, working in a film laboratory, as a lighting technician and as a camera assistant, before making his debut as Director of Photography on the feature film Planet Alex in 1999. Since then, Alexander has photographed around 90 feature films, tv shows and series.
He sees himself as a visual storyteller, a creative partner to the director and an ally to the actors. His work is driven by curiosity, collaboration and a lasting passion for filmmaking. Always open to new stories, new people and new technologies, he continues to explore the many ways images can move an audience.
